...Full lips make women appear younger than they really are.  Scientist David Gunn has found that a plump pout can take years off a woman even when she has a few grey hairs.

 

...Scientists have been working on a new way of giving breast cancer drugs which could shorten the time women have chemotherapy.  They have discovered that giving mice doxorubicin and zoledronic acid over six weeks was just as effective as giving it over six months.  More studies are now needed to see if the regime works in humans.

Count how long you hold his gaze.  Research published in the journal Archives of Sexual Behaviour, carried out using hidden cameras found that men stare at women they consider beautiful for an average of 8.2 seconds.  That drops when they look at women they don't find as attractive.

...being overweight could prevent a woman from being promoted at work but it wouldn't harm a man's prospects at all, a US study has found.  Published in the Journal Equal Opportunities International, it reviewed 29 previous research papers on hiring, firing and promotion practices.  

 
 Strange But True...
*Cat owners seem to have a much lower risk of dying of a heart attack then other people, according to a study of nearly 4500 adults aged between 30 and 75 presented at the International Stroke Conference.  The researchers think that having a cat may reduce stress and anxiety and so protect against cardiovascular disease. 

Good news for backs – women’s handbags weigh less then they used to.  Techno logical advances that have given us smart phones and MP3 players mean that women on average now carry around 3lb 5oz less than they did two years ago.

 
 Unbelievably...  
...up to a third of GPs do not treat suspected cases of breast cancer with the urgency they deserve, says the charity Breakthrough Breast Cancer.  They found that family doctors were making routine appointments for young women with a family history of the disease rather then referring them to a specialist as a matter of urgency.

...women seeking a husband really do look for men who are rich and successful, a survey of more then 20,000 people has discovered.  The findings published in the Journal of Biology Letters shows that when men are scarce: after a war for example, women settle for poorer partners.  But when more men are available women want richer and more powerful mates.

... men who are more sexually active in their 20s and 30s may run a greater risk of prostate cancer, according to Nottingham University Scientists.  They think a higher level of hormones could lead to a higher sex drive and the cancer.  Prostate cancer is the most common cancer to men in the UK, with over 30,000 new cases a year diagnosed
 Beware...

...pregnant women who are obese increase their odds of having a baby with abnormalities, say researchers.  An analysis of data from 39 studies, published in the journal of the American Medical Association, found that obese women were more than twice as liekly to have a baby with spina bifida or another neural tube defect.

 

...men who smoke cannabis once a week, or started smoking it in adolescence are twice as likely as men who haven't used the drug to get testicular cancer, an American study has found.  Lead researcher Dr Stephen Schwartz said deciding to use marijuana menat taking a risk on one's future health.

 

...men who have two alcoholic drinks a day could be raising their risk of prostate cancer by 20 per cent, according to Australian scientists. They reviewed 35 studies looking at the relationship between levels of drinking and the risk of developing the disease.
